Some listener responses to the music of Neil Buckland:

‘really great listening’ – JB, Buxton, Australia

‘deep and engaging… music that appeals to both the heart and the mind’ – MW, Boston, USA

‘compelling’ – AW, Dornoch, Scotland

‘very evocative… atmospheric lyricism… a lovely lyrical bent’ – PW, Adelaide, Australia

‘the perfect soundtrack for some recharging “me time”‘ – SP, Melbourne, Australia

‘amazing’ – WY, Shanghai, China

Parables of Sunlight :  ‘atmospheric, colourful, tuneful, yet contemporary… wonderfully evocative of the alternating cloud-sunshine image… a lovely “soundscape”’; ‘Finland with the midges replaced by exotic birds… the opening is very arresting – melodically, harmonically, rhythmically – very atmospheric’ (see ORCHESTRAL MUSIC and CHAMBER MUSIC) To hear Parables of Sunlight, go to the Listen page.

Nostalgia:  ‘Mysterious and nostalgic pastoral, one of your most attractive, colourful [and] beguiling’; ‘very beautiful’; ‘makes me think of mysterious mythical woodlands’  (see ORCHESTRAL MUSIC) To hear Nostalgia, go to the Listen page.

Gratitude:  ‘Beautiful, joyful and immersive experience listening to this. Lovely composition!’; ‘So beautiful’; ‘deserves to be popular’; ‘inspiring’  (see ORCHESTRAL MUSIC)

Concerto for Harpsichord or Piano:  ‘a rich and emotionally diverse musical experience … The concerto has an expansive landscape but, unlike some landscapes, there is a foreground and detail without waffle. The slow movement is particularly beautiful’; ‘[the 1st movement has] great textures, contrast, energy, colour, variety…’; ‘the slow movement … reminds me of Barber … tonal, tuneful, economical and expressive without going romantically overboard’  (see ORCHESTRAL MUSIC) To hear part of the Concerto for Harpsichord or Piano, go to the Listen page.

The Lay of the Last Survivor:  ‘a lovely, expressive Celtic sound, infinitely sustained… I love the sense this piece gives of being suspended in time’  (see SOLO VOCAL MUSIC)

Then I Became: ‘… reminds me of Vaughan Williams after Tallis!’ (see SOLO VOCAL MUSIC, ORCHESTRAL MUSIC, and CHORAL MUSIC) To hear Then I Became, go to the Listen page.

Echoes in the Memory:  ‘very meditative and beautiful music’; ‘lovely’; (see ORCHESTRAL MUSIC)

Vivace from Clarinet Concerto:  ‘a great piece of music’ (see ORCHESTRAL MUSIC) To hear Vivace from the Clarinet Concerto, go to the Listen page.

Pan and Selene:  ‘colourful and picturesque, but also fun’  (see CHAMBER MUSIC)

Siciliano :  ‘a lovely, understated, simple, tuneful, lonely little wisp of a piece’; ‘delightful’ (see CHAMBER MUSIC and SOLO INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)

Musick, the Mosaique of the Air: ‘That bassoon line stalking through the piece is a real gem. But it’s the unerring grasp of the “Music of the Spheres” atmosphere that I enjoy and admire the most. The mood and the slightly unexpected chromatics are really well measured and paced throughout, but the piece as a whole creates its own space in the firmament, and I think it’s superb.’ (see CHORAL MUSIC) To hear Musick, the Mosaique of the Air, go to the Listen page.
